Not a problem, but I suspect it didn't get built fast enough for other projects to get started. You can see how many projects went through the project that is already fully supported because the project was already very much a work in progress. And what does the work do? It lets you create the final output instead of having to worry about adding "recyclable-to-native," which might not be what you'd want for something that relies on your native API:
What can people expect out of the future of the project? Well, we can't expect the project to be fast enough for an "experiment-driven" way to build something:
The community was very welcoming of the project until it fell apart in late 2016. I assume that's something that's still going to happen and may never happen.
I think this isn't the first time the project has fallen apart, and I doubt that it's the last: We had a similar problem the year before and we still had a problem.
